Trade in goods of Bulgaria with third countries in the period January - June 2025 (Preliminary data)

In the period January - June 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 3.6% compared to the same period of 2024 and amounted to 14 450.3 million BGN, while the imports of goods from third countries increased by 5.5% and added up to 20 793.0 million BGN.

The most notable fall in the exports was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (50.2%). The most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (52.7%). The largest growth in the imports of goods from third countries was recorded in the section ‘Miscellaneous manufactured articles’ (26.3%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (32.6%). The data are according to the Standard International Trade Classification.

The total value of all exported goods to third countries and the EU amounted to 39 986.2 million BGN in the period January - June 2025, which is 4.6% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year, while the total value of all imported goods from third countries and the EU added up to 48 757.0 million BGN and increased by 3.1%.

In the period January - May 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 4.8% compared to the same period of 2024 and amounted to 21 128.1 million BGN, while the imports of goods from the EU increased by 0.3% and reached 23 211.1 million BGN.

In May 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 7.2% compared to the same month of 2024 and amounted to 4 170.8 million BGN, while the imports of goods from the EU increased by 7.1% and reached 4 519.3 million BGN.

The most notable growth in the exports of goods to the EU compared to the same period of 2024 was recorded in the section ‘Food and live animals’ (22.0%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (44.5%). The largest growth in the imports of goods from the EU was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (27.1%), while the most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (18.4%). Data are by the Standard International Trade Classification.

Construction Production Indices in June 2025

In June 2025, the production index in the ‘Construction’ section decreased by 0.2% compared to the previous month. A decline was observed in the civil engineering - by 1.6%. An increase was seen in the building construction - by 0.4%, as well as in the production of specialized construction activities - by 0.2%. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

The calendar-adjusted data showed a rise of 4.3% in the construction production compared to the same month of 2024. The civil engineering went up by 5.5%, the construction of buildings - by 4.2%, and the specialized construction activities - by 3.6%.

Industrial Production Indices in June 2025

The Industrial Production Index decreased by 1.7% in June 2025 compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

In June 2025, compared to May 2025, a decline was seen in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 5.2%, and in the manufacturing - by 2.4%, while a rise was registered in the mining and quarrying industry - by 16.9%.

In comparison with June 2024, a decrease of 8.2% was reported in the calendar-adjusted Industrial Production Index.

On an annual basis, a drop of the Industrial Production Index was observed in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 17.6%, and in the manufacturing - by 7.1%, while a growth was registered in the mining and quarrying industry - by 27.5%.

Turnover Indices in ‘Retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles’, June 2025

In June 2025, the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices increased by 0.6% compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

Аn increase was reported in all major group: ‘Retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores’ - by 1.3%, ‘Retail sales of non-food products (except fuel)’ - by 1.2%, and ‘Retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco’ - by 0.3%.

The trade turnover rose by 6.8% compared to the same month of 2024 according to the calendar-adjusted data.

In June 2025, compared to the same month of 2024, a rise of the turnover was registered in ‘Retail sales of non-food products (except fuel)’ - by 11.7%, and in ‘Retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores’ - by 9.7%, while in ‘Retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco’ was noted a decrease - by 0.5%.

Fiscal data by ‘Central Government’ and ‘Social Security Funds’ Sub-Sectors, June 2025

For June 2025, the reported revenues of sub-sector ‘Central Government’ were in the amount of BGN 5 777.15 million and the expenditures were in the amount of BGN 6 425.16 million, and for the sub-sector ‘Social Security Funds’ the revenues amounted to BGN 2 995.30 million and the expenditures were BGN 3 050.63 million.

The data for the ‘Central Government’ sub-sector are formed on the basis of the monthly cash statements of the budget units, as well as on estimates of the state enterprises reclassified in the sub-sector, and the data for the ‘Social Security Funds’ sub-sector - on the basis of the monthly cash statements of the National Insurance Institute and the National Health Insurance Fund.

The information is published on the basis of Article 3 (2) of Directive 2011/85 of the EU.

Building Permits Issued and Construction of New Buildings Started in the Second Quarter of 2025

In the second quarter of 2025, the municipal authorities issued building permits for the construction of 2 049 residential buildings with 10 089 dwellings, 15 administrative buildings/offices and 1 209 other buildings.

The issued building permits for new residential buildings and other buildings increased by 5.9% and 3.1% respectively compared to the second quarter of 2024. There was a 6.3% decrease in the number of building permits issued for administrative buildings.

The construction of 1 640 residential buildings with 8 064 dwellings, 23 administrative buildings/offices and 644 other buildings started.

Compared to the second quarter of 2024, the number of started new residential buildings and other buildings decreased by 3.7% and 3.0%, respectively. The number of started administrative buildings went up by 64.3%.
