Inflation and Consumer Price Indices in June 2025

In June 2025, the monthly inflation rate, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 0.4% compared to the previous month, and the annual inflation rate in June 2025, compared to June 2024, was 4.4%.

In June 2025, compared to the previous month, the highest increase was registered in the following groups: ‘Recreation and culture’ (2.8%), ‘Restaurants and hotels’ (1.3%), ‘Alcoholic beverages and tobacco’ (0.8%) and ‘Transport’ (0.7%). A decrease in the prices was recorded in the following groups: ‘Clothing and footwear’ (-0.6%), ‘Communications’ (-0.2%) and ‘Miscellaneous goods and services’ (-0.1%).

The monthly inflation rate, measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), was 0.4% and the annual inflation rate was 3.1%.

Crimes, accused persons and persons convicted in 2024

The trials for 28 935 committed crimes were concluded in 2024. Proceedings of 10 235 crimes were ended with effective sentences, 13 596 crimes - with conditional sentences, 744 crimes - with acquittal sentences, 282 crimes - with suspension, and 4 078 crimes - with release of penalty.

The number of persons convicted with enforced penalties was 21 821 in 2024.

Industrial Production Indices in May 2025

The Industrial Production Index increased by 0.5% in May 2025 compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

In May 2025, compared to April 2025, a rise was seen in the manufacturing - by 1.7%, and in the mining and quarrying industry - by 0.4%, while a decline was registered in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 8.0%.

In comparison with May 2024, a decrease of 6.6% was reported in the calendar-adjusted Industrial Production Index.

On an annual basis, a drop of the Industrial Production Index was observed in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 26.6%, and in the manufacturing - by 2.0%, while an increase was registered in the mining and quarrying industry - by 8.4%.

Construction Production Indices in May 2025

In May 2025, the production index in the ‘Construction’ section decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month. A decrease was observed in the production of specialized construction activities - by 1.7%. An increase was seen in the civil engineering - by 0.3%, as well as in the building construction - by 0.2%. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

The calendar-adjusted data showed a rise of 5.1% in the construction production compared to the same month of 2024. The civil engineering went up by 9.3%, specialized construction activities - by 4.5%, and construction of buildings - by 3.1%.

Activity of accommodation establishments in May 2025

In May 2025, 2 658 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation, with 10 or more bed-places, functioned in the country, with 106.9 thousand rooms and 237.1 thousand bed-places in them. In comparison with the same month of the previous year, the number of accommodation establishments increased by 1.7%, and the bed-places in them - by 1.5%.

The total number of nights spent was 1 532.2 thousand, or 7.4% more in comparison to a year earlier, and the number of arrivals in all accommodation establishments increased by 7.8% and reached 658.9 thousand.

The total revenues from nights spent reached 134.2 million BGN, or 15.7% more compared to the same month of the previous year.

Trade in goods of Bulgaria with third countries in the period January - May 2025 (Preliminary data)

In the period January - May 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 4.5% compared to the same period of 2024 and amounted to 11 887.8 million BGN, while the imports of goods from third countries increased by 7.3% and added up to 17 496.1 million BGN.

The most notable fall in the exports was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (53.8%). The most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (54.8%). The largest growth in the imports of goods from third countries was recorded in the section ‘Miscellaneous manufactured articles’ (29.0%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (39.6%). The data are according to the Standard International Trade Classification.

The total value of all exported goods to third countries and the EU amounted to 33 015.9 million BGN in the period January - May 2025, which is 4.7% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year, while the total value of all imported goods from third countries and the EU added up to 40 707.2 million BGN and increased by 3.2%.

Trade in goods of Bulgaria with the EU in the period January - April 2025 (Preliminary data)

In the period January - April 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 4.2% compared to the same period of 2024 and amounted to 16 957.3 million BGN, while the imports of goods from the EU decreased by 1.2% and reached 18 691.8 million BGN.

In April 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 12.1% compared to the same month of 2024 and amounted to 4 208.3 million BGN, while the imports of goods from the EU dropped by 6.2% and reached 4 793.3 million BGN.

The most notable growth in the exports of goods to the EU compared to the same period of 2024 was recorded in the section ‘Food and live animals’ (24.4%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (40.6%). The largest growth in the imports of goods from the EU was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (31.3%), while the most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (24.6%). Data are by the Standard International Trade Classification.

Agricultural Land Prices and Rents in Agriculture in the Republic of Bulgaria in 2024

In 2024, the average price of transactions with arable land in Bulgaria reached BGN 1 697, which was 5.9% higher than in 2023. Compared to the previous year, there was an increase in the price of arable land transactions in five statistical regions: Severozapaden, Severen tsentralen, Severoiztochen, Yugoiztochen and Yugozapaden regions. A decrease was registered in Yuzhen tsentralen region.

In 2024, the average price for rent/lease of one decare of arable land reached BGN 60, which was 3.2% lower than in 2023. Compared to the previous year, there was a decrease in the price paid for rent/lease of one decare arable land in Severen tsentralen, Severoiztochen, Yugoiztochen and Yuzhen tsentralen regions. The price paid for rent/lease of one decare arable land in Severozapaden and Yugozapaden regions did not change.

Turnover Indices in ‘Retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles’, May 2025

In May 2025, the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices increased by 2.0% compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

An increase was reported in ‘Retail sales of non-food products (except fuel)’ - by 2.7%, while a decrease was observed in ‘Retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores’ - by 2.9%. The turnover in ‘Retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco’ kept the level of previous month.

The trade turnover rose by 7.2% compared to the same month of 2024 according to the calendar-adjusted data.

In May 2025, compared to the same month of 2024, a rise of the turnover was registered in ‘Retail sales of non-food products (except fuel)’ - by 12.3%, and in ‘Retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores’ - by 8.8%, while in ‘Retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco’ it is at the level of May 2024.
