Bulgaria handed over the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the field of statistics to Austria

On 26 June 2018 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the President of the NSI Sergey Tsvetarsky officially handed over the Presidency of the Council Working Party on Statistics to the Director General of Statistics Austria Dr. Konrad Pesendorfer.

Mr. Tsvetarsky made an overview of the main results of the Bulgarian Presidency’s work on the legislative proposals in the field of statistics with a focus on the last tripartite negotiations with the European Parliament and the European Commission and the possible next steps for making progress on the open files.

Another regulation in the field of statistics successfully goes through trilogue

On 21 June 2018 at the European Parliament’s premises in Brussels, tripartite negotiations (trilogue) were held between the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission on the proposal for a Regulation on Integrated European Social Statistics (IESS).

The aim of the regulation is to create a common framework for European statistics relating to persons and households, based on data at individual level collected from samples.

‘Better Cooperation, Better Data Quality’ Conference will be held in Sofia

The National Statistical Institute and Eurostat will host a Conference for the European statistical data users in Bulgaria - Better Cooperation, Better Data Quality, which will be held on June 25th, 2018 at Hilton Hotel in Sofia.

The event is held within the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and on the occasion of the 138th anniversary of the establishment of the official statistical institution in Bulgaria.

The discussions focused on the legal architecture of the proposal, as well as the content of the delegated and the implementing acts.

The main topic of the meeting of the Working Party on Statistics, which was held on 29 May 2018, was the European Commission’s Proposal for a Framework Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on European business statistics amending Regulation (EC) No 184/2005 and repealing 10 legal acts in the field of business statistics (FRIBS). The discussions focused on the compromise text on Articles 1 to 27 prepared by the Bulgarian Presidency.

International conference “Big Data for European statistics” 2018 (BDES 2018) was held in Sofia

The National Statistical Institute hosted and co-organised, together with Statistics Belgium, an international conference at which the results of the ESSnet Big Data project were presented. NSI President Sergey Tsvetarsky, Director-General of Eurostat Mariana Kotzeva, President of Statistics Poland Dominik Rozkrut, and project coordinator Peter Struijs participated in the event, which took place on 14-15 May 2018 in Sofia.
