Representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe visited NSI and had a meeting with the President of the institute, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, and heads of departments from the Demographic and Social Statistics Directorate and Business Statistics Directorate.
In 2023, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Bulgaria is 185.233 billion BGN. The growth rate of GDP is 1.9% compared to 2022. The data was presented during a press conference by the President of the NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov and the Deputy President, Svilen Kolev, PhD.
“The beyond GDP agenda: past, present, visions for the future” was the theme of this year’s Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders (CESS) 2024, which was attended by the President of NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov. The event was held on 15 and 16 October 2024 at the headquarters of the Banque de France in Paris and was jointly organized by Eurostat and the European Central Bank under the aegis of the European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC).
The updated digital library of the National Statistical Institute is now available to its readers worldwide. Users now have online access to over 1,200,000 digital pages from NSI’s book collection and can consult over 14, 000 bibliographic descriptions. Last year alone, more than 24,500 online readers were registered, who read more than 625,000 pages.
The Deputy President of the NSI Svilen Kolev, PhD was elected as a member of the Executive Body of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payment Statistics (CMFB) for the 2025 and 2026 mandate, after an election procedure that was held among the members of the Committee.
Eurostat expert team was on a two-day mission in the National Statistical Institute, to assess the reliability of the data on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP). Among the main topics of discussion were specific issues related to HICP data; the methodology for energy products in Bulgaria; the methodology for telecommunications services; specifics issues related to the house price indices, and others. Representatives of the Bulgarian National Bank and the Ministry of Finance also participated in the meeting as observers.
Deputy President of the National Statistical Institute, Svilen Kolev, PhD met in Beijing with the Deputy Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China Mrs. Ruan Jianhong. Mr.
The President of NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov took part in a high level meeting of the heads of the European national statistical institutes on theme “Towards an ESS Vision 2030”. The event which took place in Balatonfüred was organized jointly by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and Eurostat as part of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The President of the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria (NSI) Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov and the Presdient of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) - Athanasios Thanopoulos, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of official statistics, which marked the beginning of a new stage in the collaboration between the two countries in statistical studies of foreign trade in goods, tourism statistics, population and housing census, etc.
With an official letter from the Chair of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Mr. Geir Axelsen, the President of NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD, was informed of the successful conclusion of Bulgaria’s accession review to the Committee.
