The President of NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD took part in the 5th Congress of Polish Statistics, which was held in Warsaw from July 1 to 3, 2025. At the invitation of Assoc. Prof. Marek Cierpiał-Wolan, President of Statistics Poland, Assoc. Prof. Atanasov attended the event alongside his colleague Athanasios Thanopoulos – President of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
The President of the NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, received a specially crafted honorary badge on the occasion of the 145th anniversary of the establishment of the statistical institution of Bulgaria from Gogita Todradze, the Executive Director of the National Statistical Office of Georgia – GEOSTAT.
The gift was presented during the, held in Geneva, Conference of European Statisticians, as an expression of gratitude for the good cooperation between the two institutions.
In June 2025 will be conducted a pilot test of the questionnaire and methodology for the upcoming European Health Interview Survey. The survey is being carried out in the framework of the ‘European Health Interview Survey (EHIS), 2025 wave’ project under Grant Agreement with the European Commission No. 101191410 - 2024-BG-EHIS. The pilot aims at testing the harmonised questionnaire, the developed IT applications and the overall methodology of the survey, which will be conducted in autumn this year.
The President of the NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD and Maria Gochova – the Head of the International Relations and Projects Department, participated in the 59th Meeting of the European Statistical System Committee. The event took place in the period of 21 – 22 May 2025 in Luxembourg.
In a dedicated section “ Sustainable Development Goals 2030” on the NSI website, the information on progress towards all 17 SDGs has been updated. Reporting is through the indicators included in the National set of indicators for monitoring progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by Decision 613 from 11 September 2023 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria.
On 7 and 8 May 2025, the National Statistical Institute hosted a regular Eurostat Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP) dialogue visit about the notification tables for the deficit/surplus and the debt of the “General Government” sector. The mission was led by Mr. Gabriele Semeraro, Director of Eurostat’s “Government Finance Statistics” Directorate and representatives of the statistical body of the European Commission and included an observer from the European Central Bank.
The President of the NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD participated in a meeting of the heads of the statistical authorities of the European Statistical System (ESS) member states, organized in the framework of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. The aim of the meeting, that took place in Warsaw, was to discuss the implementation of the amendments and new additions to the main European regulation in the field of statistics – Regulation 223/2009.
The President of the National Statistical Council (NSC), Assoc. Prof. Ekaterina Tosheva, PhD participated in a seminar of the European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC), which took place in Athens in the period of 26-27 March 2025. The event was organized in close cooperation between the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) and Eurostat under the moto “Statistical priorities in Europe: the users’ perspective and mechanisms for consultations”.
The Executive Director of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, Avni Kastrati, and the Population Registration Manager, Ylli Shala, were on a two-day visit to the NSI. The purpose of the visit was to discuss at a high level the possibilities for future cooperation in the field of statistics between the two institutions.
